Numerous Crashes Reported On Slick Long Island Roadways

With more light snow coming and going, Long Island continues to clean up from several crashes that were reported in both Nassau and Suffolk counties due to slick roadways that led to dangerous conditions for drivers.

Dozens of crashes were reported on Long Island in the past 24 hours during the latest storm to roll through the region, according to officials, with the majority of major incidents in Nassau during the heart of the storm.

Suffolk County Police responded to more than 150 crashes during the storm, while Nassau County Police helped clear nearly 100 crashes on Thursday, Feb. 18, and early on Friday, Feb. 19.

Most crashes were deemed minor in nature, though there were major crashes in Babylon, Franklin Square, and Wantagh that tied up traffic and left some with minor injuries.

Multiple crashes were also reported in North Babylon, when a two-car crash led to a small pile-up that involved at least five different vehicles on Sunrise Highway.

Other major crashes were reported on the Wantagh State Parkway and Southern State Parkway.

Motorists have been advised to stay off the roadways through Friday night following overnight rain, with snow expected to fall on Long Island through the middle of the afternoon, creating hazardous conditions.
